Cornwall’s political parties, and potential independent candidates, have been given until 4pm on Friday 20th January to enter a crucial council by-election.
The contest has the potential to reduce the Tories’ already precarious overall majority on Cornwall Council, threatening the ambition of senior County Hall officials to install a mayor.
Polling day will be Thursday 16th February. Cornwall Reports understands that the Conservative candidate is likely to be Will Elliott, deputy mayor of Penzance. Rival parties are still scrambling to agree who they will nominate.
