Fire crews battled for more than four hours overnight as flames swept through the derelict Four Winds Inn, Falmouth. No-one was hurt but officers advised locals to keep their windows closed because of the smoke.

About 45 firefighters and at least six fire engines, drawn from all over the west of Cornwall, were involved. It is understood the property was used by squatters and some reports have suggested it was venue for drug-taking.
The roof collapsed and the building now seems likely to be demolished. The site is earmarked for redevelopment as student flats.
The cause of the blaze is to be investigated later today.
