Preparations for Bodmin’s Heritage Day get underway in earnest tomorrow (Saturday) with a meeting to plan the Children’s Dance. Parents and youngsters are encouraged to meet at the Bodmin Jail at 1pm.
The organisers’ Facebook says: “This meeting is for anyone who would like to help with, discuss or find out the plans for The Children's Heritage Day Dance 2017.

If you work in a school, if you can distribute leaflets or if you have anything that will help us build on what we achieved last year then we'd love to see you. Last year we were fortunate enough to get great support through donations, assistance with rehearsals, musicians, gifts for the children, printing and much more. This year we need all the help we can get to make the dance bigger and back to where it used to be.”
Bodmin’s Heritage Day itself is in July. The event has its origins in medieval times and stems from local trade guilds. It used to commemorate the hanging of the Mayor in the fifteenth century, but while the procession tradition and medieval fair continue, the focus has now moved to the less sinister “Hunting of the Beast of Bodmin” play.
