An instant “village” to house 2,000 Falmouth University students could be built at Treluswell, near Penryn, if planners approve an application submitted to Cornwall Council.
The Penvose Student Village would be built on 480 acres of farmland between Treluswell Hill and the A39, behind the Four Cross Garage.
Outline plans (PA16/11983) propose housing for approximately 2,000 students, with up to 400 student parking spaces, a 450 place park-and-ride car park, sports facilities, and a commercial area including shops and eateries.

Cornwall Council aims to decide the application by April. So far only one public comment has been received by officials. James Penrose objects to the application, saying he is concerned about the lost of farmland, and the loss of an historic view. He highlights traffic problems caused by a large increase of vehicular journeys “on a road already overloaded beyond capacity. General desecration of the countryside, size of site and height of accommodation buildings. There is more than enough room on the currentcampus and brown field sites in the vicinity to accommodate the plan.” He is also concerned about the prospect of noise and light pollution.
A pre-application inquiry last month won the qualified support of planning officials, who nevertheless said : “There are still significant issues to be resolved.”
