The Wadebridge refugee support group is calling in the Local Government Ombudsman to investigate Cornwall Council’s demand for £1,600 business rates.
The group claims the council is acting unfairly by not applying “100% discretionary relief” to its occupation of a small industrial unit on the outskirts of town. The council says it has already applied a generous discount and has to be consistent in the way it treats similar organisations.
