Police are appealing for witnesses after a man was stabbed with a machete in St Columb.
Officers were called by an ambulance crew at 11.10pm.
Police say the offender(s) left the scene in a vehicle.
The victim, a 30-year-old man, sustained life-threating injuries to his abdomen and was taken to Derriford by Search and Rescue helicopter for treatment where he remains.
Anyone who witnessed any suspicious behaviour in the area or has any information is asked to contact police on 101@dc.police.uk or call 101 quoting log 1010 Sunday 29 July.
