Devon and Cornwall police have disclosed that they dealt with more than 40 cases of dogs worrying sheep last year. In the calendar year 2016, there were 34 cases reported as “attacks/worrying” and 10 of “dogs killing sheep.” There was one reported case of a farmer or landowner shooting a dog as a result.
According to the Farmers Guardian newspaper, about 15,000 sheep were killed by dogs nationwide last year – a figure 10 times higher than previously thought. Nearly 50 dogs were shot as a result.
